The dual quakes, centered approximately 160km west of Caracas, have caused widespread structural failure, with authorities reporting at least 250 buildings destroyed or severely damaged. The disaster has struck a nation already grappling with profound economic instability, infrastructure collapse, and severe power shortages, leaving the country’s healthcare system ill-equipped to handle a crisis of this magnitude.
In a coordinated global response, nations from across the Americas, including Brazil, Canada, Mexico, Colombia, Cuba, and the United States, have pledged urgent assistance. Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva confirmed the deployment of a specialized search-and-rescue team, alongside a field hospital and telecommunications experts. These assets are being transported by military aircraft to ensure rapid arrival in the hardest-hit areas.
Despite the influx of foreign aid, the logistical challenges remain immense. With hospitals already operating at reduced capacity and critical infrastructure in disrepair, the focus remains on clearing rubble and locating the estimated 200 people still believed to be trapped. Acting President Delcy Rodriguez has confirmed that UN-certified search teams are now integrating with local rescue units to expedite the search for survivors.
