A series of powerful explosions rocked a Syrian army facility near the town of al-Eis, located south of Aleppo, early on Monday. The incident, which occurred at a military weapons depot, has left at least four individuals injured, according to reports from state media. Authorities have since launched an emergency response operation to stabilize the area and treat those affected by the blasts.

The exact cause of the explosions remains under investigation. While the site is a known military installation, officials have not yet released details regarding what triggered the initial detonation. Following the primary blast, subsequent secondary explosions were reported, complicating the situation for emergency responders arriving at the scene.

Faisal Mohammad Ali, the head of civil defence operations in Aleppo, confirmed that rescue teams successfully evacuated four injured people from the site. These victims have been moved to medical facilities, though their current conditions remain largely undisclosed. Emergency services are working in a highly volatile environment as fire teams attempt to contain the resulting inferno.

Safety Measures and Public Warnings

Aleppo Governor Azzam al-Gharib has issued a stern warning to local residents, urging them to remain indoors until the perimeter is secured.

“Hospitals, ambulance and emergency teams are on full alert,”

the governor stated, emphasizing the gravity of the ongoing situation. The regional administration is prioritizing the safety of the civilian population as the threat of further instability persists.

The Internal Security Command has taken aggressive steps to restrict movement in the vicinity. Roads leading to the al-Eis facility have been sealed off, and security personnel are strictly enforcing these closures. The goal of these restrictions is to prevent onlookers from entering the danger zone and to allow clear passage for fire trucks and ambulances navigating the area.

Witness Accounts and Regional Tensions

Local residents have described the event as a massive disturbance. One individual from the Hamdaniyeh neighborhood reported hearing a “huge explosion” that shook the area. From their vantage point on a rooftop, witnesses observed intense flames leaping into the sky, illuminating the horizon in the distance.

The incident is part of a growing trend of mysterious explosions at military-linked sites across the country. Syria, which is currently undergoing a period of transition following the toppling of longtime ruler Bashar al-Assad in late 2024, has seen a recent uptick in such security incidents.

Only days ago, an unexplained explosion in the eastern province of Deir Az Zor resulted in 11 fatalities. Furthermore, an earlier blast at a Ministry of Defence weapons depot in Idlib province left 14 dead and 11 injured. These recurring events highlight the persistent challenges in maintaining control over military munitions during this period of national transition.

As recovery efforts continue, regional authorities remain on high alert. The combination of structural damage and the potential for unexploded munitions has prompted officials to maintain the current lockdown of the al-Eis site until a full assessment can be completed by military and security experts.
