Escalating hostilities across the Gaza Strip have resulted in new fatalities and severe damage to critical medical infrastructure. According to the Gaza Health Ministry, recent Israeli military operations have intensified, leaving victims trapped under debris and further straining an already collapsing healthcare system. Among the most concerning incidents was a drone strike that hit a medical supply warehouse located within the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital complex in Deir el-Balah.
The director of Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital confirmed that the strike targeted a tent serving as a vital repository for medical supplies, leaving at least three people injured. While the Israeli military acknowledged conducting an operation within the hospital compound, they claimed, without providing supporting evidence, that the strike was aimed at a Hamas commander. This incident marks another instance where medical facilities, which should be protected under international law, have become the theater of active military engagement.
Widespread Violence Across the Strip
The reach of the military campaign extended well beyond the central regions. In Gaza City’s Tal al-Hawa neighborhood, an Israeli drone targeted a motorcycle, an attack that the Palestinian Wafa news agency reported resulted in at least one death and two injuries. The victims were transported to the al-Quds Field Hospital for emergency care. Additionally, earlier in the day, a fatal shooting incident occurred in the village of al-Musaddar, east of Deir el-Balah, claiming one life.
Northern Gaza also remained under pressure, with reports from hospital officials indicating that an Israeli quadcopter deployed an explosive device in the vicinity of the Kamal Adwan Hospital. These consistent strikes occur despite ongoing discussions regarding a ceasefire, highlighting a significant disconnect between diplomatic efforts and the reality on the ground.
A Growing Humanitarian Toll
The human cost of the ongoing war continues to climb at an alarming rate. Gaza’s Health Ministry reported that 10 bodies were received over a 48-hour window, nine of which were fresh fatalities, while one was recovered from under the rubble of a destroyed building. Furthermore, 18 people sustained injuries during this period. The ministry emphasized that many victims remain unreachable, buried beneath ruins or trapped on roads that are currently inaccessible to ambulances and civil defense personnel.
The statistical data regarding the conflict is harrowing. Since the onset of the war in October 2023, the Ministry estimates that 1,313 Palestinians have been killed specifically by Israeli attacks following the start of the ceasefire period. Beyond these deaths, the Palestinian Centre for Missing and Forcibly Disappeared Persons reports that between 4,000 and 5,000 individuals are still missing, feared dead under the rubble.
The center’s recent analytical study suggests that many of these disappearances may point to a broader, systematic pattern. Out of 317 cases examined, 95 percent were male, including 41 children and 17 elderly individuals. As the war persists, the total death toll since October 2023 has now surpassed 73,000 Palestinians, leaving the region in a state of profound humanitarian crisis.
