Nigeria’s Civil Service Faces Backlash Over N54.5M Cleaning Bill

Nigeria’s public spending is under fire after records from the Govspend portal revealed the Office of the Head of Civil Service spent over N54.5 million on cleaning and fumigation in just two months.

The payments, processed in April 2025, were distributed among ten different companies for services allegedly rendered in January and February. While the office was being scrubbed, other government spending sparked equal outrage:

N1.1 billion earmarked for presidential aides' quarters.

N1.2 billion for luxury SUVs and saloon cars.

N9.6 million spent on "branded towels" as birthday souvenirs for SGF George Akume.

Critics argue these figures highlight a staggering disconnect between official luxury and the economic reality of citizens. As transparency advocates scrutinize these "landmark" expenses, the call for fiscal accountability in Abuja grows louder.
