The Imo State Police Command has fired three officers following shocking allegations of kidnapping, armed robbery, and car snatching. The dismissed operatives—ex-Sgt Gift Ekwueme, ex-Sgt Ikechukwu Eto, and ex-Cpr Divine Okwuaru—were found guilty during an internal "orderly room" trial.
The trio is accused of posing as members of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit to extort ₦1.7 million from a victim, Mr. Obinna Egbu, at gunpoint on February 8, 2026. A civilian accomplice was also reportedly involved.
New Police Commissioner, Audu Garba Bosso, ratified the dismissal, signaling a zero-tolerance policy for police corruption and misconduct. Currently detained at the state headquarters, the former officers now face criminal prosecution in court. This swift disciplinary action aims to restore public trust and weed out "bad eggs" within the Nigerian Police Force.
