Tensions in the occupied West Bank have reached a volatile peak following a series of deadly encounters involving Israeli military forces and armed settlers. On Friday, local authorities confirmed the deaths of two Palestinian men in separate incidents, marking a significant intensification of the ongoing cycle of violence that has gripped the region. As illegal settlement expansion accelerates, communities across the territory are reporting an alarming rise in forced displacement and aggressive military incursions that continue to destabilize the area.

In the Hebron district, 17-year-old Karim Sanad Shalaldeh was fatally shot during a violent incursion into the Khirbet Hamroush area. According to reports from the Palestinian Ministry of Health, the teenager suffered a lethal gunshot wound to the chest after a large group of armed Israeli settlers raided the locality. Eyewitness accounts provided to the Wafa news agency suggest that the settlers not only opened indiscriminate fire on residents but also set several Palestinian homes ablaze, further exacerbating the humanitarian crisis for local families. A 70-year-old man was also injured during the assault, underscoring the indiscriminate nature of the violence.

Fatal Military Raid in Jenin

Simultaneously, a separate tragedy unfolded in Jenin, where 58-year-old Fathi Khazem was killed during a targeted Israeli military operation. The Israeli army alleged that Khazem, a retired colonel in the Palestinian National Security Forces, attempted to attack troops during a raid on his residence. However, the circumstances surrounding his death have drawn intense scrutiny, particularly as the military reportedly denied emergency services access to the home. The Palestinian Health Ministry confirmed that the military withheld the victim’s body, preventing his family from conducting a burial, a practice that frequently intensifies local grieving and anger.

The situation in Jenin remained precarious throughout the day as additional skirmishes broke out between local residents and occupation forces. The Palestinian Red Crescent Society reported that its medical crews were required to treat a 14-year-old boy who sustained critical chest and back injuries from live ammunition during a separate raid nearby. Meanwhile, the Israeli military confirmed the arrest of six individuals during their operations in the city, contributing to the growing tally of detainees held in the region’s escalating conflict.

Humanitarian Crisis in Qusra

Further south of Nablus, in the town of Qusra, the humanitarian situation has deteriorated into a prolonged standoff. Residents in the Ras al-Ain area are currently enduring their 13th consecutive day under a strict siege imposed by armed settlers and backed by Israeli military forces. Mayor Abdel Azim Wadi described a harrowing reality for the families trapped within the perimeter, stating that they are being denied entry or exit from their own homes.

“Families are effectively trapped in their own neighborhoods as their homes are seized or restricted by military zones,” said Qusra Mayor Abdel Azim Wadi.

The severity of the situation is compounded by the military’s decision to declare the area a closed zone, effectively cutting off essential supplies. One of the Palestinian homes in the area has reportedly been commandeered and converted into a makeshift military post, highlighting the strategic nature of the displacement efforts currently underway. As residents run low on essential resources, the international community faces growing calls to intervene and halt the forced displacement of these vulnerable civilian populations.
