In a historic moment at Old Trafford, 15-year-old batting prodigy Vaibhav Sooryavanshi made international headlines by becoming the youngest-ever player to represent India in a men’s T20 international. At just 15 years and 99 days old, the teenage sensation eclipsed the record previously held by the legendary Sachin Tendulkar, marking a new era for Indian cricket.

The highly anticipated debut occurred during the second T20 match against England in Manchester. Despite the weight of expectation and a primetime audience tuning in from Mumbai, Sooryavanshi showed no signs of nerves. He offered an immediate glimpse of his talent, carving out a brief but explosive 14-run cameo off just 10 deliveries, highlighted by two spectacular sixes that electrified the crowd.

Sooryavanshi’s arrival on the world stage was tested early by England’s Josh Tongue. After a shaky start with an inside edge, the youngster found his rhythm against his Rajasthan Royals teammate Jofra Archer, hitting a daring shot over his shoulder for a maximum. However, his maiden innings eventually concluded when Will Jacks lured him out of his crease, resulting in a smart stumping by Jos Buttler.

While the debutant stole the spotlight early, the match ultimately belonged to England’s Jacob Bethell. With England chasing 191 for victory, the 22-year-old played a composed and clinical match-winning innings of 76 not out. Bethell steered the hosts to a four-wicket win with an over to spare, giving England a 1-0 lead in the five-match series.

The turning point arrived in the 17th over, bowled by Ravi Bishnoi. A series of backfoot no-balls gifted England free hits, which Bethell punished ruthlessly. The sequence of events saw 29 runs conceded in that single over, shifting the momentum firmly in England’s favor and effectively ending India’s hopes of defending their total.

Despite the result, the emergence of Sooryavanshi remains the significant talking point of the series. His fearless approach against elite international bowlers suggests a bright future for the teenager, provided he continues his development under the watchful eye of the Indian selectors.
